Shark Tales, Barbara Corcoran

Found a book that made you stick to it till the end? NO, this is the one. YES, this is another one!

At least it was for me, I stuck to it like a glue, literally.

Author    : Barbara Corcoran

With        :  Bruce Littlefield

Pages       : 320 pages

Rating      : 4/5 (great read!)

Audience : 12+

Shark tales is an inspirational autobiography of Barabara Cocoran. Even though it  is currently titled Shark Tales, it remains true to its former title: If You Don’t Have Big Breasts, Put Ribbons on Your Pigtails: And Other Lessons I Learned from My Mom.

Ms.Corcoran talks about how she became a successful businesswoman in real estate market with little experience and knowledge. She made her money in New York real estate and then sold her company for $66 million.

To provide some context:

Barbara was among the 10 children growing in New Jersey. After failing at twenty-two jobs, Barbara Corcoran borrowed $1,000 from a boyfriend, quit her job as a diner waitress, and started a tiny real estate office in New York City. She managed her business with the lessons she learned during her childhood from her mother. Her decisions were based on her experiences. She shows us that a business can be built with common sense and consistency.

The book is in two sections:  First part is of 219 pages. It’s interesting but takes some time in getting used to. A chapter starts with an event of her work life, then she gives a flashback to a memory of her mother’s advice. The similar sequence continues throughout the book. In this section “If the sofa is ripped cover it with laughter” and “you’ve got to bully a bully” are two of my favorite chapters which she features under the name mom’s lesson 3 and 22.

The second half of the book starts at the page 229. This part tells a story 7 years later. She focuses on her Shark Tank experiences in this part.

The overall book offers practical tips that can be applied to any business type, despite being centric to real estate.

Not the first book I have read, but the first review that I posted(Many more to come)! Let me know how you feel about it,suggestions are welcome.
